Action cameras can become an important tool in education. Most students have access to a digital camera on their cell phone, but those cameras do not have some of the enhanced capabilities and features of an action camera. These capabilities and features include slow/fast motion and time-lapse recording. In addition, action cameras are durable, waterproof and small in size, making them highly portable and versatile in their use.
Review the following examples of how you could use an action camera in your classroom.
In this lesson students will observe how the sun, moon and stars are visible in the sky at different times of the day and identify patterns in the motion of these celestial objects. This lesson can be modified to allow students to record their own live-action video clips and can be easily adjusted to secondary levels.
In this project students will build a gravity slider that allows for footage to be shot as an object is falling. This can be used in conjunction with another project, such as 3D printing, conducting experiments, and/or another lesson.
